Twinning during COP 28

At the initiative of the ULiège Green Office, UNI for Change member higher education institutions will be organizing a number of climate-friendly activities this autumn during COP28, culminating in a live activity to calculate individual carbon footprints on World Climate Day!

Climate issues are increasingly the focus of attention, particularly at COP time. The next COP will take place at the end of November - beginning of December, and will concentrate the energy and motivation of many players around the world. To contribute to these high-energy moments, the ULiège Green Office is organizing a Climate Fortnight from Monday November 27 to Friday December 8, which corresponds to World Climate Day. All UNI for Change member campuses are invited to participate in, organize or co-organize joint activities in favor of the climate!

The aim is to boost the participation of students and staff from all campuses in a varied and attractive program:

  • screening of the film "Pourquoi on se bat", by Camille Etienne
  • question/answer program on the climate
  • board games evening
  • low-carbon breakfasts
  • conferences: climate change in Liège, different forms of commitment, etc.
  • collaborative workshops: Freque du Climat, Fresque du renoncement, Inventons nos vies bas carbone, etc.
  • a photo contest, with a call for testimonials about climate action
  • dressing-room sale
  • master class
  • and much more!

The Climate Fortnight will close with a highly symbolic activity to mark World Climate Day on December 8: an online carbon footprint calculation activity offered simultaneously to participants from all campuses in Belgium and abroad!

The activity will be hosted live by the ULiège Green Office team in French and English.

Organizations other than campuses are also invited to participate!

Why is it important to measure your carbon footprint?

Campus members are increasingly aware that our lifestyles have an impact on the climate, and are keen to act responsibly. Measuring one's carbon footprint allows everyone to realize their impact on the climate. In fact, the carbon footprint highlights the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions in our daily lives. Knowing your personal carbon footprint is therefore a starting point for taking free and informed action in favor of the climate.

In concrete terms, how can you take part in this highly symbolic activity?

Log on to Teams on December 8 and take part in the activity live! The Green Office team will guide you through the carbon footprint, explaining the main orders of magnitude and the actions that have the greatest impact. Then, scan a QR code or click on the link in the chat to access a calculator and answer a few questions about your habits. Once you've obtained your result, you'll be invited to choose actions to reduce your impact on the climate!

  • I'm a student: get a group of friends together and take part
  • I'm a teacher: join in with your students by logging in during your lesson and projecting the Teams screen. You can also run the activity yourself using the support materials downloadable from this page (PowerPoint, animation guide).
  • I work on a campus: invite your colleagues to take part with you!
  • I represent a campus or organization: invite all your members to take part. Contact the ULiège Green Office to receive invitation e-mail templates.
  • I'm a citizen: you're welcome too! Gather as many people as you can around you and take part together!
